Alaska Occupational Health began serving Fairbanks in the early 90’s. It was our goal to deliver the highest quality Occupational Health Care to business, industry and employees in an efficient, affordable, and accountable manner. We pride ourselves in knowing and conforming to both the letter and the intent of the law. We stay apprised of recommendations from the Public Health Service, CDC, NIOSH, and expert panels and keep informed on Federal and Alaska laws. We have done special training in Workers’ Compensation care and consider Respirator Exams and Hearing Conservation Programs our forte. This Web Site is our newest project allowing us to disseminate information, and provide Respirator Questionnaires with ease and confidentiality for our clients.

We are very comfortable with medical consultation, respirator protection programs, respirator questionnaires and exams, hearing conservation, and DOT drug and alcohol programs - that’s what we do! We comply with all Federal, State, and local Safety training and regulatory requirements. If we do get your contract we would ask that we have the opportunity to do a “walk through” of a representative facility to help us to understand the demands on employees.

Introducing Our Staff...

Elizabeth A. Kohnen, MD, MPH - Dr. Kohnen has been practicing in Fairbanks since 1992 and has had a strong interest in Occupational Medicine. To broaden her expertise, she earned a Masters in Public Health in Occupational Medicine and continues to learn about and keep updated in the field. Dr. Kohnen also is Board Certified in Internal Medicine - the care of adults, and is a certified Medical Review Officer and Independent Medical Examiner.

David S. Grauman, MD, FACP - Dr. Grauman is board certified in Internal Medicine and has been practicing in Fairbanks since 1974. He is also an experienced Air Transport Pilot and from his concern for the airline industry has developed AAT, Inc. - a company that helps the Air Carriers to be compliant with FAA drug and alcohol rules. AAT has done such a fine job, that it has extended it’s expertise to many non-aviation companies. Dr. Grauman is a very experienced Medical Review Officer.

Karen Manning, LPN, CSAPA - No doubt about it, Karen knows her drug and alcohol regulations inside and out and is the powerhouse that keeps AAT going. Anyone who has run a drug and alcohol program knows what a sticky wicket testing, record keeping, and employee relations can be. Karen does it with extraordinary grace and skill.

Jeanne M. Clark, PA-C - Ms. Clark has been practicing Internal Medicine for 10 years and has been with Alaska Occupational Health since 1996. She brings a professionalism to our exams that can’t be beat. She is thorough, thoughtful, and understanding of employees’ fears and concerns. Ms. Clark is CAOHC certified for hearing testing, and NIOSH certified in doing pulmonary function testing, and is a certified Breath Alcohol Technician.

Donald E. Hussen, PA-C - Our newest professional addition, Mr. Hussen is a retired Military Medical Officer with special training with the Navy in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. He has been in the Fairbanks area for the last 6 years and has experience in Internal Medicine and Orthopedics. We are happy to have him join our team and believe that his background and experience round out our office nicely.

Lorna Eberhart, Patrick McNamara, Brian Schmidt, Paul Manning - These four take care of our Statewide drug and alcohol collection sites as well as covering after-hours collections. All are certified Breath Alcohol Technicians.

Mari Jo Merwin, LPN - is new with us and will soon be up to speed with CAOHC and NIOSH training for audiometry testing and spirometry.

Tami Moses, MA - joined us in 1999 as an Intern, and has been with us ever since. She too will soon be certified with CAOHC and NIOSH.

Bevin Stephens and Sandy Baker - Bevin is our energetic receptionist who will make your appointments, and Sandy will be handling all billing and payment issues.
